COMMAND MASTER CHIEF: Chief Warrant Officer Class 1 - Boie Barrie
CWO1 Boie Barrie began his professional journey in the maritime field after enlisting in the Sierra Leone Navy in 1986. Over the years, he has accumulated extensive experience and expertise across various roles, showcasing his dedication and commitment to maritime safety and operations. From 1988 to 1996, Boie served as a Radar Operator and Assistant Navigation Officer on multiple patrol boats, including PB 101 “MOA,” PB 102 “NAIMBANA,” and PB 201 “FARANDUGU.” In these roles, he was instrumental in identifying air and sea objects to prevent collisions and ensure the safe navigation of vessels.
In 1996, he was appointed as Executive Officer of PB 104 “THAIWAN ISLAND,” where he was responsible for the ship's operations and the safety of passengers and crew. This role marked a significant step in his career as he took on greater leadership responsibilities. From 1999, he served as a Platoon Commander and Battle Course Instructor, followed by his appointment as IT Officer in 2001, where he was responsible for the operation and maintenance of all IT equipment.
In 2006, Boie Barrie advanced to the role of Executive Officer of CUTTER 03, overseeing all ship operations and participating in search and rescue missions, customs duties, marine and fishery protection, and anti-piracy operations. In 2008, he was seconded to the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration, where he was responsible for search and rescue operations, training new crew members, and managing vessel navigation and safety.
In 2009, Boie Barrie was appointed System Technician at the JMC Operation Center and Shift Supervisor, where he managed the maintenance and service of all IT equipment. His leadership capabilities were further recognized in 2014 when he was appointed as the 2nd in Command and Administration Officer at the Maritime Trade and Information Sharing Centre (MTISC) in Ghana, where he was in charge of personnel administration and IT equipment maintenance.
Currently, Boie Barrie holds the position of Command Master Chief of the Sierra Leone Navy, where he serves as the bridge between the ratings and the Officer corp of the Sierra Leone Navy. Additionally, he oversees various operational and administrative functions, ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of maritime operations.
Throughout his career, Boie has received numerous accolades, including the Best Coxswain Award from the U.S. Coast Guard International Training Division. He continues to enhance his skills through various training programs and workshops, focusing on leadership and management skills.
Outside of his professional life, Boie Barrie is happily married and the union is blessed with children.
